Maghera gets first zero carbon homes

Plans for zero carbon homes in Maghera, Co. Derry

Fairbuild Homes has been granted planning permission to build the first Zero Carbon homes for sale in Maghera. Two semi-detached, three-bedroom turnkey homes will be built at The Fort, Craigmore Road, Maghera and will offer the lucky purchasers low-cost, carbon-neutral living all at an affordable price.

Each house has been specially designed by Barry Gallagher, our Architect & Building Sustainability Consultant. The objective is to ensure that a high level of energy efficiency is achieved through an approach that combines “Whole-of-life” design with the latest renewable energy technology. In simple terms, it is a home that is built to last, incorporating sustainable materials with high levels of energy efficiency. This is fantastic news for cash strapped first-time home buyers who will be able to buy a home that is “future-proofed”.

Building these homes fits with Fairbuild’s vision to offer homes with zero carbon energy use across Northern Ireland. We want to improve our home buyers’ quality of life by reducing running costs to an absolute minimum. Not only that, we want to reduce the impact that new build homes have on the environment.

The homes will be built to compliment the style of existing homes within The Fort development and negotiations are at an advanced stage with a building contractor to carry out the works. It is anticipated that work will start before the end of the year, with completion by summer 2014.
